Changing the default icon in OS X.

The purpose of this guide is to show you how to change the default icon in OS X 10.5/4.

1. Open up a picture that you would like to use as a icon and select Copy. In this case I want to create a Windows XP icon for my VMware install.

2. Next right click on the file that you want to change the icon. Click Get Info.

3. Click the icon at the top left corner in the Get Info window.

Notice that the icon has a glowing aura around it now.

4. Now click Edit --> Paste

And that's it. The new icon should be put into place.
